Darcy Sliger is half the woman she used to be.
In July 2009, she arrived at Womack Army Medical Center for an orientation briefing on bariatric surgery. She weighed 284.8 pounds. After meeting all the stringent demands of the program, including losing at least 10 pounds on her own, attending numerous education classes and undergoing a battery of mental and physical fitness examinations, Sliger had gastric bypass surgery Oct. 6, 2009. Today, 15 months later, she has dropped from a size 24 to a size six and surpassed her original goal of 150 pounds. After changing her lifestyle, eating habits and getting a little help along the way from medical science, Sliger now weighs 143 pounds.
