This invention relates to a power control circuit for a stepping motor and more particularly to such a circuit which permits a user to regulate the amplitude and speed of rotation of the stepping motor in a manner that will be particularly advantageous to use in systems requiring automatic manufacturing of test articles such as gears and racks.
2. Description of the Prior Art
Stepping motors have been widely used to drive gearboxes in automatic tooling machines. The motors are constructed so that they tend to make a great many revolutions between the time that a gear rotates into a selected position in the tooling machine and the time that the next gear enters the position. This is particularly true where the user desires to create a continuous succession of gears in the tooling machine. The requirement for a continuous succession of gears is necessary to obtain the work or products with the desired quality, e.g., precision.
The user is required to periodically reverse the driving force for the stepping motor to permit the gears to stop in the desired locations. In the case of an automatic tooling machine, the reversing of the driving force is frequently accomplished by the reverse rotation of the tooling machine. However, if the user desires to manufacture a large number of gears for a particular application, the tooling machine must be in continuous motion while this reversing operation is being accomplished.
The prior art stepping motors do not permit the user to control the amplitude of rotation, i.e., the total number of times the motor will revolutionize per a given unit of time, and the speed of the motor during the rotation of the shaft.
The speed and amplitude of stepping motor are often regulated by a tapering of the voltage applied to the power supply. However, because this voltage is applied to the motor over the entire coil, there is some tendency for the motor to continue
